Our Story.

A legacy of quality for over 50 years

Penny’s Meats began in the mid-1970s when John Penny started working on his father Jack’s farm. The family farm reared dairy cows and sheep, but its heart was in pigs. For years, the farm supplied a wholesaler who took every pig they produced until the contract suddenly collapsed.

With a yard full of pigs (and no way to ask them to stop growing!), John made a bold decision: he would butcher the pigs himself and sell the meat to friends and family.

Farmers for many generations

The demand quickly grew. A small farm shop followed, a butcher was hired, and Penny’s expanded into lamb and beef. John watched carefully, learned the craft of butchery, and developed a passion that would shape the family’s future.

When John’s son Tim joined the business, it soon became clear that the traditional farm-shop model wouldn’t sustain the growing family enterprise. Penny’s began to diversify, supplying meats to the hospitality industry across the North West.

Today, Penny’s Meats proudly supplies some of the region’s finest hotels, restaurants, and kitchens with produce they can trust — every single day.
